Tea culture, industry and science
During a visit to the Yanzike ecological tea garden in Wuyishan on 22 March 2021, Xi Jinping called for an integrated approach to tea culture, the tea industry and tea science; green development, stronger brand awareness, improved marketing and distribution, and a solid industrial basis for rural revitalisation. This is an unofficial English rendering of the original Chinese.
Tea culture honours work and keeps skills alive; the industry connects a leaf’s value with rural livelihoods; science supports ecological growing and quality. This is a tea-focused interpretation of public ideas, not an official recommendation or authorisation of this project.

In his congratulatory letter for the first International Tea Day on 21 May 2020, Xi Jinping wrote: “Tea originated in China and is popular around the world.” The letter addressed sustainable global tea development, cultural exchange and a wider appreciation of tea. English quotations here are unofficial translations.
Tea-centred exchange is more than a product export. It can communicate hospitality, respect for work and gratitude for people close to us. Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and English are a starting point for that conversation.

Traditional Chinese tea-processing techniques and associated social practices were inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List on 29 November 2022. Xinhua reported Xi Jinping’s instruction on safeguarding intangible heritage on 12 December 2022, including a call to tell the stories of China’s fine traditional culture and help it reach the world. The report does not specify the instruction’s exact date; the English is an unofficial rendering.
Heritage begins with real makers: their names, stories and skills, understood and continued by younger generations. Garden visits, conversations and authentic records give cultural meaning a concrete form.
